    New orders for manufactured goods in the United States shrank a higher-than-expected 1.7 percent in August from July, following a downwardly revised 0.2 percent gain in the previous period and posting the fifth drop this year. Excluding transportation, orders fell 0.8 percent and excluding defense, they decreased 1.2 percent. Factory Orders in the United States averaged 0.27 percent from 1991 until 2015, reaching an all time high of 10.50 percent in July of 2014 and a record low of -10.10 percent in August of 2014. Factory Orders in the United States is reported by the U.S. Census Bureau. The Manufacturers’ Shipments, Inventories, and Orders (M3) survey provides broad-based, monthly statistical data on economic conditions in the domestic manufacturing sector.
