    Personal consumption in the US edged up 0.1 percent in September from August of 2015, following a 0.4 percent increase in the previous period. It is the lowest gain since January and below market forecasts of a 0.2 percent rise. Income also went up a meager 0.1 percent, the smallest gain in six months. Personal Spending in the United States averaged 0.55 percent from 1959 until 2015, reaching an all time high of 2.80 percent in October of 2001 and a record low of -2 percent in January of 1987. Personal Spending in the United States is reported by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Consumer spending accounts for about 70 percent of economic activity in the United States and is a key driver of growth.
