    US retail sales rose by a stronger than expected 1.3% in April 2016 (compared to market expectations for a 0.8% gain). Strength was broadly based, with a 0.8% gain in sales excluding the auto sector and a 0.9% jump in 'control' sales (retail sales ex-autos, gas stations, and building material stores)[​IMG]
